Gooey Butter Cake

Gooey Butter Cake

*I take Hershey's Milk Chocolate Chips and cover half of the crust and leave the other half plain..and then after pouring the filing in, I cover the top half on the same side with Hershey's Mini Morsels ( I know it is hard to believe but, I actually know a few people who do NOT like chocolate..can you believe it??)

Cake:
1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

Prepare Filling:
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.
Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.

**(Baking time definitely varies oven to oven, so, check it at 30 & 40 minutes with a toothpick-also, if the edges are good and done take it out, even if it doesn't look done as long as the toothpick comes out clean)  let it set for at least 30 minutes.

Painted tables

This project took me the better part of a week. I was using a brush to prime since we all ready had it laying around and I was trying to "use what I have". Hubby told me more than once to go buy spray primer but nooooo I am stubborn saving money. *oh my aching forearm muscles* Sunday I broke down and to Lowes I did go. 3 cans of primer later and maybe 30 minutes tops I was done kicking myself for the pain I had inflicted needlessly .

As the mosquitoes swarmed sun dropped behind the house I headed out and gave the tables a few coats of white spray paint. I came in the house covered in spray paint and hives/chiggers.

In a week or more I will give all the bright white paint a rub down with a nice burnt umber glaze to highlight the details.

EXCUSE THE MESS WE ARE ORGANIZING THE HOUSE FOR OUR SCHOOL YEAR :)

linking up to FRUGAL FRIDAYS at the Shabby Nest

Happy Monday :) preparing for school

Today we are sorting through all of the home school supplies and books that have been crammed into our home school cabinet. I didn't realize just how much we had and how much was UNUSED.sigh.

We are starting to make sense out of it all. Progress is slow as we go through each book/workbook to see if it was scribbled in and then try to find if we have both the workbook and book it goes it.

We have so many different curricula that we have bought or was given to us that I am not sure which one(s) to keep and use. I like SOS and we will be getting Math and English from AOP but Science and History is so subjective. Last year we bought the entire SOS 5 subject package and we loved it! Money this year is tight as we would need to buy 2 sets of SOS for the girls so I am trying to make do with what we have until we can save up for what we want.  We want a Christian and Young Earth Worldview so we are picky. Every curriculum has its own spin that we don't always agree with and I hate having to tell the children "Well, the book says x,y,z but we believe a,b,c so ignore that part".

Right now 2 rooms in the house are a mess of books and work books, past years of school papers needing sorted, and school supplies. I don't like throwing away old drawings and school work but we can't keep everything :(  (not to mention I am a "tosser" not a "collector") Thinking of packing a box or two to Nanny and Mawmaw of 'keepsakes'. :) Then I am off the hook for "not being sentimental". LOL

Looking at our piles I am thinking a book sale may be in order!

So are you ready to start school this year?
What curriculum are you using?
