putting it to paper

I am currently working on my home management binder.
I have been making lists of things on paper and then I will sit down on the computer and make up charts or whatever you call it. It is amazing how much you can think of that you should have info on "just in case".

So far I have-
  • emergency phone numbers
  • allergy list for each family member
  • my cell phone "call list" in case it dies in the washer *again*
  • CDs
  • DVD/VHS
  • books
  • basic schedule for a day
  • current activities for the week (til summer)
  • back up list for my bookmarked favs on the computer
  • Hubby's cell phone(s) "call list"
  • pics of each room for insurance
  • decorating ideas/swatches from rooms
  • "to do" list for each room. including ALL future projects
  • clothing/shoe size list for each member of the family
  • pantry/freezer main list
  • pantry/freezer shopping list (we go to Costco and stock for about 4-6 wks at a time)
  • passwords for CPU/internet/websites

What do you think?
Am I missing anything?

it begins..."hearth keeper overhaul"

I started my "hearth keeper overhaul"  in my closet.

I pulled out every.single.thing.

(yes, that is my wedding dress peeking out. never cleaned from the wedding. never stored properly)

We (the girls and I) vacuumed, scrubbed and swept the corners for what felt like 10 times cause dust and stuff just kept appearing! Then we sneezed and coughed and choked for the last 2 days.

Obviously I have no shame as I am posting these pics!

Hours and hours later everything was in its place, nothing was teetering dangerously overhead ready to fall, and I realized that Hubby has 3/4 more clothes than I do and he only wears 1/4 of what he has.

Because I am a glutton for punishment I dumped a 3 drawer junk collector dresser. Found photos, ultrasound pics from my last pregnancy, glue gun, and tons of stuff that just didn't have a home.

There are now 4 '50 gallon' trash bags of trash and junk sitting in my living room and on the porch. Hubby came home and was shocked I pulled that much junk from our closet. I told him it was easy when I started pitching the boxes from cellphone we had 5 yrs ago, and the Wii boxes, scraps of paper and anything broken or unmatched.

There is a floor to my closet!
There is open space on the rods!
All shoes are present and accounted for!

(pics of the the clean closet coming in a bit)
Ahhh... sweet relief of being done in one area! Now to keep it like that till later next year when we remodel and the closet moves to the other end of the bedroom!

it is time...

Well, the time has come for me to grow up and get down to being a hearth keeper. Time to organize and start running this place like I mean it. time to teach the children like the gifts from God they are. Time to make life happen instead of letting it happen!

There is so much I am lacking in home making skills, budgeting skills, parenting skills, Bible studying skills, ah hem.

I am going to make a home management binder. We need a schedule in this house esp with the new fine art classes the children are taking. If I am not purposeful in my budget and meal planning I will easily drive us into the poorhouse with eating out on our trips to town for art, karate, AWANA,  Bible study.... sigh

I know how to plan. That is never the problem. I can really go OCD on making plans...

It is STICKING to the plan I have issues with. FPU showed me I am the "free spirit" in our home and Hubby is the "task master".  Good thing since he is the supervisor at work ;)  Now if it could rub off on me.
